  2. If it had not been the Lord who was on our side— let Israel now say— if it had not been the Lord who was on our side when people rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us; then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; then over us would have gone.

The key word in this section is the word if. If is a tiny little word with big implications. And here the if's focus on what might have happened if not for God. If the Lord had not been on our side, we would have been destroyed. Notice that the phrase If the Lord had not been on our side is repeated Psalm 124: 1 says, If the Lord had not been on our side... The psalmist is reflecting on the protections that were afforded Israel because they had the Lord on their side. The Hebrew name of God, Jehovah, is rendered LORD in this verse. Jehovah means the existing One and is the proper name of the one true God (Strong's Concordance) 6. Next. Psalm 124: 1 If it had not been for the Lord who was on our side, now may Israel say; (124:2) If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us. (124:3) When they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us; (124:4) Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone. It is not certain that this is the events that are spoken of in Psalms 124 but there is a striking literary parallel between II Samuel 5:20 and Psalms 124:4-5: the raging or bursting waters. Regardless of what specific enemy the Israel's had been saved from, Psalms 124 is a Psalm of declarative praise Everything happens in God's timing. God's plan MAY be to rescue, or to heal, or to save. But just NOT YET. His timing's PERFECT. Notice what v2 says (Psa 124:2 NIV) if the LORD had not been on our side when men attacked us, God was THERE/ WHILE men were attacking. He hadn't rescued YET. But rescue was COMING. And when it did, they could sa

Psalm 124 begins by reminding us twice that God is on our side: If the Lord had not been on our side, let Israel now say; if the Lord had not been on our side As you know, it's easier to believe God is on our side when things are going well in our lives, when we're feeling blessed by God God wasn't going to remove my choice, but I had a decision to make, and I made it once more to make another Stand. This was for two reasons-. (1) I still loved him, and I still had hope. (2) My husband destroyed himself, and his vows during that first bout of midlife crisis, but he did NOT destroy me, nor my vows The Awareness of our Possibilities - if not for the Lord, we would have been: A. Doomed - vs. 1-2 (Some would have been on other's sides - Egypt, Babylon) 1. Alienated from God. Psalms 10:4 The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts. 2 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when our enemies attacked us, then they would have swallowed us up alive We have escaped like a bird from the snare Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.-- Psalm 124:2-3a, 7a, 8Theme: The Savior of IsraelOutline1-5 -- Unless God had defended us, we would have gotten swallowed up by enemies. 6-8 -- Thanks to God. If it had not been the Lord who was on our side. Psalm 124. God in the troubles of the good. Homilist. I. ACKNOWLEDGED AS THE DELIVERER FROM GREAT TROUBLES (vers. 1-5). 1. Some of the things you and I have had to face would have been impossible to survive had it not been for God. I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Those life experiences brought us to our knees but rather than giving up, we looked up. That is the point where we learn to hold on and hold. If Christ had not come, the promises of God would be unfulfilled. If Christ had not come, the world would still be in darkness. But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is empty, and your faith also is empty. It was a carefully planned event, as indicated by Paul when he points out that Christ's death was according to Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3). 2. We know God because of Jesus. That's why Isaiah wrote, that God became Immanuel, God with us. Otherwise, God would have no face, no ears, no heart. We would not understand God because, as Jesus said, If you have seen me, you have seen the Father; for I and the Father are one. If Jesus had not come on Christmas, we would have no knowledge of.

Near the end of our passage, just before Jesus calls for the 4-day dead Lazurus to come out of the tomb, He prays, Father, I thank you that you have heard me.I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may.

Paul decided he would step in at this point and he reminded them that they should have listened to him, for he had warned them before they left Crete not to set sail If God only called us to do things we could easily do, to give what we could easily give, then we really wouldn't need Him at all. His calls always stretch us beyond our limits and our resources so that we will be forced to trust completely in Him. Is there anything God has already [ If It Had Not Been for the Lord on My Side Lyrics: If it had not been for the Lord on my side / Where would I be? Where would I be? / If it had not been for the Lord on my side / Where would I be Remember this, had any other condition been better for you than the one in which you are, God would have put you there. You are put by him in the most suitable place, and if you had had the picking of your lot half-an-hour afterwards, you would have come back and said, Lord, choose for me, for I have not chosen the best after all The beauty of God's grace is that he can take the nasty, messed up, shame-filled land of your life, and he can flood it with new life. If you were to take a visitor to a land that had previously been flooded and is now filled with beauty, your friend might say, Wow! This is beautiful.

For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. Your troubles are not about you. Your troubles are about God. They are sent to teach you things about God you couldn't learn any. God has not been dethroned. It remains eternally true that the LORD has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all (Psalm 103:19). God is still king of all the ages. It is simply a matter of understanding that the fullness of God's Kingdom will not come about until this present evil age comes to an end

God had made their bodies perfect; and if they had not sinned, they probably would have remained around 20 years old for eternity. Just think, this whole planet would have become a paradise, and the devil would have been thrown into the lake of fire thousands of years ago We call this the I KNOW series because we are basing our Christian faith on what we know, not just on what we feel. No human ruler has ever had to make that kind of a decision. In Luke 6, Jesus is face with this sort of decision. He has come to earth to show and teach people what God is like and have an everlasting relationship with God. He only has three years of ministry, and by Luke 6, almost half of that is gone If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say; 2 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us: 3 Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us: 4 Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul: 5 Then the proud waters had gone over our soul Seeing God Face to Face. by Kim Riddlebarger. The disciples in the night we see them in our text were literally churning waters. They had been out on the waters and had gotten to the middle of the lake. But out of nowhere a notorious squall blew in against them If Christ had not been raised from the dead, we would still be in our sins because that would mean his sacrifice was deficient. But he has been raised and the point of all these texts is that this resurrection is the reward for his sacrifice and a validation of its utter perfection and sufficiency to make us perfect before God.
